Five hectares of greenery in the town centre: this is the Plateau des Poètes, an English garden designed by the Bühler brothers, renowned French architects and landscape gardeners in the 19th century. It was inaugurated in 1867
Linking the railway station and the Paul Riquet alleys, this park is home to many varieties of plants and trees, rare or exotic species.
Ponds, sculptures and monuments mark out this site classified as a Historic Monument since 1995.
In particular the Fountain of the Titan, sculpted by the Biterrois Jean-Antoine Injalbert (1845-1933). A monumental work of art 17 m high installed there in 1892. It represents the giant Atlas (in bronze) carrying on his back the planet Earth, itself supported by a titan and angels, resting on a shell pulled by horses
The Titan is, along with the Monument to the Dead (also by Injalbert), the major and emblematic piece of this park.
