A young woman, a waitress by trade, must audition to play Juliet Capulet in William Shakespeare's play at a major New York theater.

On the advice of one of her restaurant's customers, she goes to be coached by a depressed, alcoholic actor who gave up on the stage three years ago. A colorful encounter and a fine lesson in theater are on the program of this comedy.
