Built downstream of Fonseranes, it was inaugurated in 1858. Bordered by a row of majestic Cypress trees (in contrast to the canal which is almost entirely lined with plane trees), the bridge spans the Orb, allowing vessels to pass over it rather than sail along the river. This “boat bridge” makes it easier for canal boats to navigate and alleviates the difficulties associated with the Orb's very irregular flow. Extending 12 m high, 28 m wide and 240 m long, the Pont-Canal aqueduct has also featured a gallery since its inception, which runs under the canal and allows the structure to be inspected.
